Maybe it’s the recent holiday week or maybe it’s the rain, but I have been thinking about San Francisco lately and how great a city it is. Since most of my readers live in San Francisco, I know I’m stating the obvious to most, but sometimes the obvious just needs to be recognized. And while I am a bit biased (well, a lot actually), the more people I tell where I’m from, the more amped I get about my (or should I say our) city by the bay.
Technically, I grew up in Moraga, or Mo-Town as my friend Wendz and I nicknamed it years ago to give the small town some flava, but having lived in the city, city for almost 4 years, I can call claim to residency (or past residency, but I’m not one to care about technicalities). A lot of Americans who I have met here are from the east coast, which is far, but obviously not as far as San Francisco, so I have a certain pride when I tell people where I’m from. First, I guess doing so reconfirms and reminds me that I’m really making it here in BCN, that this is my now. In a similar sense, it’s just so far away and since I can’t just hop on a plane whenever I want, the daily, be it small, achievements are that much more rewarding for me.
And second, it’s so cool to see people’s reactions because SF has such a positive global reputation. 9 out of 10 people, rather, make that 10 out of 10, either say how much they love SF or how much they would love to go. And then naturally, I go on a rant on what’s so great about it, ladida, and it’s a fun conversation for me to have. Talking about SF never gets old and the more I’m away, the more I appreciate the city as a whole.
So on that note, thanks for bearing with one of my sappier posts
